Boynton Beach Accident Results in Death

Each year, people are injured or killed in Florida accidents involving drunk drivers. A recent accident involving an 81-year-old Boynton Beach man who was allegedly driving drunk resulted in the death of a Deerfield Beach woman. When people are killed in accidents that are caused by drunk drivers, their surviving family members can file wrongful death claims to recover compensation for their losses. Getting help from a Boynton Beach car accident lawyer at Boynton Law might allow you to hold a drunk driver accountable for his or her actions.

In the recent accident, a 58-year-old Deerfield Beach woman, Neuvaneide Bezerra, was riding her motorcycle on Federal Highway on Nov. 20 shortly before 6 p.m when an 81-year-old Boynton Beach man, Richard James Sullivan, attempted to turn left across the woman’s lane of travel at the Ocean Avenue intersection. The woman was unable to avoid the collision. Fire Rescue transported her to Delray Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

While Sullivan was uninjured, the police reported that he exhibited signs of impairment. Responding police officers stated that he had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled of alcohol. They also reported that he failed to complete a standardized field sobriety test. Breathalyzer testing revealed that Sullivan’s blood alcohol content was 0.08%, which is the legal limit in Florida. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Sullivan reportedly told the police that he only drank one drink during dinner at a restaurant. He claimed that the left turn arrow was green when he turned. A witness was unable to say whether or not the traffic light was green. Surveillance videos from area businesses will be reviewed.
